Baku — November 19, marked globally as Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, unfolded in Azerbaijan this year with a renewed sense of purpose. Women’s Entrepreneurship Summit 2025, jointly organized by Azerbaijan HR Institute and Azerbaijan Women Entrepreneurs Development Association (AWEDA), brought together voices, perspectives, and experiences that reflect a shifting landscape for women in business. More than an event, the summit functioned as a vivid map of emerging leadership, innovation and human capital development in the country.
The opening session set the tone for the day. Senior government representatives and institutional leaders – including Sadiq Aliyev, Chairman of the State Employment Agency; Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of SMB; Turkey’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Birol Akgün; Member of Parliament Vugar Bayramov; founder and Director of Azerbaijan HR Institute Emil Huseynov; and Ofelya Salmanova, spouse of the late Major General Polad Hashimov — underscored the significance of women’s participation in the economic system. AWEDA Chairwoman Səkinə Babayeva addressed the participants via video message, emphasizing the growing momentum of women-led initiatives and the need to strengthen collaboration across sectors.
The summit’s discussions revealed a powerful shift in the country’s business narrative. The first panel brought together women leaders from diverse industries who shared insights into how changing market dynamics demand adaptive leadership styles and human-centered approaches. Their reflections highlighted that women are no longer on the periphery of economic activity; they are active architects of innovative strategies and competitive business practices. A subsequent discussion deepened this theme by examining women’s roles in the innovation ecosystem, the rise of data-driven entrepreneurship, and the growing importance of female representation in startup and digital transformation sectors. Experts stressed that increasing women’s access to decision-making processes strengthens both organizational agility and the country’s broader economic performance. The final panel of the day focused on values-based management, corporate well-being, gender equality and global HR trends, illustrating how women’s entrepreneurship is intertwined with cultural and institutional transformation.
One of the summit’s most notable moments was the WE Impact Awards 2025, which celebrated individuals and organizations contributing to the growth of women’s entrepreneurship across the country. The awards not only recognized outstanding achievement but also signaled a broader commitment to elevating women’s leadership as a central pillar of inclusive economic development.
The scale of participation revealed the scope of this movement. Speaking about the significance of the gathering, Emil Huseynov highlighted the summit’s central mission and the community it brought together:

He noted that nearly 80 percent of professionals in the HR field in Azerbaijan are women – a strong foundation for cultivating the next generation of female leaders. The summit, he added, is a platform designed to expand opportunities and amplify the strategic role of women in shaping the future of the national economy.
Women’s Entrepreneurship Summit 2025 ultimately delivered a clear message: the role of women in Azerbaijan’s economy is moving from aspiration to activation. The reflections, collaborations and commitments shared throughout the day showed that women entrepreneurs are not merely adapting to change — they are driving it, transforming business culture and shaping policy conversations with increasing influence. The event highlighted both the achievements of established leaders and the emergence of a new generation poised to redefine the country’s entrepreneurial horizon.
